Project
Complete Streets, by design, accommodate safe and comfortable access for pedestrians, bicycles, transit users and the mobility impaired, of all ages. Yet, conventional urban streets are designed to provide efficient throughput for automobiles and transit vehicles, adequate parking for cars and loading for trucks. A large variety of complete streets design features and performance measures are common in the urban design discourse, and a large number of case studies have been undertaken in practice. This project developed a novel tool to rationalize the conversation about complete streets in the context of information technology, and to make explicit the assumptions and trade-offs that are implicit in street design through the following deliverables:

1. Animated survey tool that quantifies trade-offs associated with complete streets for pedestrians.
2. Street network design toolbox for evaluating consistency of streetscapes with user demands.
3. Interactive visualization tool to identify deficit corridors for different modes of transportation.
